This article examines an unpublished fragment of an attic black-figure kylix found in Pompei. On this vase there is a rare example of an interesting mythological scene: the rapt of Deianira, Herakie’s wife, by the Centaur Nessos. The ‘absentia’ of Herakles and the attitude of the figures confer an erotic tone to the episode, already in prominence in the ancient sources, and makes it suitable to tickie the sensuai character of the symposium.
