First season of excavation at the R12 late neolithic cemetery in the Northen Dongola Reach (Kawa, Sudan): preliminary report

Abstract

In view of a more general study of population dynamics and transitional processes between the Late Neolithic and Kerma urban society in southern Nubia, a British-Itaiian joint project has been started in the Northern Dongola Reach with the excavation of a large Late neolithic cemetery.
During the first field season 30 graves for a total of 35 individuals have been excavated and the topography of the area accomplished.
