A small group of Hellenistic engraved gems, all of them unpublished, is kept in the glyptic collection of the Archaeological Museum of Venice. ln this paper only a few intaglios are taken into consideration for their particular iconographic and stylistic treatment. For example some heads denote a varying mixture of realistic and idealistic features, typical of Hellenistic art. It is particularly evident here an increasing influence of sculpture: in a very interesting piece the figure seems to reproduce a lysippean model, expressed by the athletic gesture of a naked young man wiping away his sweat with a strigil.
