The research on Proconnesian sculptures presented in this article is part of a study on marble monuments imported into Palmyra which includes archaeological investigations based on chronological and iconographical criteria as well as petrographic and geochemical analyses. Import of white marble artefacts into Palmyra expand our knowledge of the commercial routes in the near eastern area during the Roman Empire and gives evidence of the artistic relations between the city and other parts of the Roman Empire.
