Abstract

Two terracotta statuettes, one from a prehistoric cave (Wadi el-Maghara) at the foot of western Mt. Carmel and the other from a tomb in Dardanos, Turkey, both of the Hellenistic period, display a great resemblance to one another, despite the geographical distance between the two. This paper examines the iconographical and stylistic similarities, differences and the possible functions of the two statuettes.
