In 1950 a necropolis was found in Carceri, three kilometres south-westward far from Este (Padua). Forty-two tombs were brought to light: among the contents, burnt bones revealed cremation as funeral rite and furnishings as belonging to Iron Age civilization of Veneto.
These findings give an opportunity to outline organization of Ateste territory during first millennium B.C., between Late Bronze Age and Romanization.
