Abstract

The paper presents a first general overview and some preliminary considerations of an ongoing multidisciplinary research project led by the italian national research Council (Cnr) and the French Centre national de la recherche scientifique (Cnrs). its main objective is to concentrate on the evidence of the african wares (fine wares, amphorae, lamps, etc.) found in roman sicily and to investigate aspects of the archaeological and archaeometrical evidence. it aims also is to establish the degree to which local and imported african wares reflect the broader, complex phenomena of long-distance trade within sicily and all the Mediterranean basin.
